Services — Breast Ultrasound

Breast Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the breast. Ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation and does not involve x-ray exposure. It is commonly performed together with mammogram except in younger women where it can serve as the initial test.

Breast ultrasound is also commonly used to evaluate women with dense breast tissue which is very common and is not abnormal. However, dense breast tissue can make it harder to find cancer on a mammogram and may also be associated with an increased risk of breast cancer.

You should wear loose and comfortable clothing. You may be asked to wear a gown during the procedure.

If you have had any prior mammograms, breast ultrasounds or breast MRIs at another facility, please bring them with you on the day of your appointment.
